Opening hours

1 October to 31 March- 9am to 4pm

1 April to 30 September- 9am to 6pm

All sites are open 7 days a week, except for 25 December, 26 December and 1 January. 


Access and site restrictions

You can only visit a household recycling centre in a car, van, or small trailer. Vehicles with trailers larger than 1.2m x 1.8m may only visit the Aylesbury, Amersham, Aston Clinton and High Wycombe household recycling centres. You may need an permit to visit a site if you are:


  • disposing of asbestos in any vehicle
  • using a commercial vehicle
  • on foot
  • using any vehicle with a trailer larger than 1.2m x 0.9m

Banned Vehicles

For safety, site size and capacity reasons these vehicles are not allowed into any household recycling centre:

  • a vehicle with more than 4 wheels unless at a BCC Trade waste HRC
  • a vehicle weighing more than 7.5 tonnes
  • a trailer larger than 1.8m long x 1.2m wide, up to 60cm high with a cover and excluding tow bar
  • a vehicle with a tipper or tipping tail lift mechanism
  • horseboxes
  • tractors


Also banned are vehicles carrying commercial waste, unless paying separately to dispose of commercial waste


Access on foot

To ensure that the health and safety of anyone walking waste into the sites an e-permit is required.

Waste left outside the gates

Any waste left outside the gates of Household Recycling Centres is fly-tipping, individuals caught will be liable for prosecution. Each site has CCTV for site security, health and safety of the public and operatives.

Sites also have automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras to investigate fly-tipping and suspected traders depositing waste free of charge. The cameras also help monitor site usage and develop our services.


Acceptable waste

You can get rid of personal waste at our Household Recycling Centres. 

We do not accept at our recycling centres:

  • Animal bedding, carcasses and faeces
  • Materials presenting a direct contact risk
  • Tree trunks and branches thicker than 20cm and or longer than 2m
  • Flammable liquids and explosives eg. petrol / fireworks / ammunition


We do recycle at our recycling centres:

  • Batteries (eg. torch type and small rechargeable)
  • Car batteries – max. 2 per year
  • Cardboard 
  • Car tyres – max. 5 car tyres per year
  • Cooking oil
  • Engine Filters
  • Waste engine oil – max. 10 litres per year
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Garden waste
  • Gas bottles
  • Hardcore (eg. bricks, rubble)
  • Household electrical goods
  • Light bulbs and Fluorescent tubes - max. 4 fluorescent tubes per year
  • Man-made wood (eg. chipboard or MDF)
  • Paper
  • Scrap metal including fridges, foil and drinks cans
  • Soil
  • Textiles and clothes
  • Wood


Accepted at some centres with conditions

Asbestos and garden chemicals - further rules apply   


Plasterboard is accepted at Amersham, Aston Clinton, Aylesbury, Beaconsfield, High Heavens and Langley centres only


Please remove all tiles, wood, concrete render, plastic, bricks, cement board and metal from the plasterboard.
